Sat, 09 February 2013 | Condolences

President James Michel has expressed his deepest condolences to the Davidson family as well as the partner of Rebecca Davidson, upon the passing away of the young New Zealander journalist last night.

"The passing away of your daughter, Rebecca, who was on assignment in Seychelles to cover the International Carnival of Victoria has left us all in deep shock. We are all profoundly saddened by the demise of your daughter in such tragic circumstances. Rebecca was an outstanding journalist, a vivacious young lady with a truly engaging personality and a deep empathy for her follow human beings, who had a successful career behind her with many years of achievements to look forward to in her chosen profession.  We are deeply sorry that Rebecca’s dreams and ambitions have been cut short by this cruel accident," said the President in a message to Rebecca's parents, who are currently in New Zealand.

"The people of Seychelles join me and my family in expressing to you, your loved ones and the friends and colleagues of Rebecca our heartfelt sympathies and deepest condolences on the tragic loss of your daughter. Our thoughts are with you and we pray that you find the strength and courage to surmount the terrible tragedy that has befallen you, and we stand ready to offer you our support in whatever way we can."

The President also extended his condolences to Rebecca's boyfriend who arrived in Seychelles today, and said that the Government would ensure its full support to the family.
