VICTORIA (Reuters) - Japan's state oil firm has signed an agreement with Seychelles to survey offshore from the Indian Ocean country, as interest in exploring for oil in the region increases.

Abu Dhabi renewables company Masdar – majority owner of the world’s largest concentrating solar power plant, which launched in March – has today announced the launch of a 6MW, eight-turbine wind farm in the Republic of Seychelles, marking the first ever renewables project for Africa’s smallest nation.
The wind farm – which was developed by Masdar and funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) – is sited in Port Victoria, and will account for 8 per cent of the energy capacity of the main island of Seychelles, Mahé, which is home to 90 per cent of the country’s population. ...more

Abu Dhabi's state-owned green energy company Masdar yesterday cut the ribbon on the Seychelles' first major renewable energy project, designed to help the archipelago curb its reliance on expensive and carbon-intensive diesel generators.
The 6MW wind farm in Port Victoria is expected to displace 5,500 tons of carbon dioxide a year by reducing the need for 1.6 million litres of diesel fuel. As diesel accounts for a quarter of the island nation's imports, the move is expected to significantly cut energy bills. ...more

Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) today launched a 6-megawatt, eight-turbine wind farm in the Republic of Seychelles. The Port Victoria Wind Farm accounts for 8 percent of Mahé Island’s energy capacity (the main island of Seychelles) which is home to 90 percent of the country’s population. The project was developed by Masdar and funded by ADFD.
The clean energy generated by this first renewable energy project in the Seychelles, will displace 5,500 tons of carbon dioxide annually, power more than 2,100 homes and save 1.6 million litres of fuel per year. ...more
