Mon, 18 April 2011

April 16 April 18, 2011 -- Delegates to the 25th Congress of the ruling Parti Lepep (People's Party) on 16th April unanimously approved the nomination of Mr James Michel as their candidate in the  presidential election scheduled for May 19-21.

Mr Michel thanked the delegates for their confidence in him.

"Thank you for the confidence and the new opportunity you have given me to serve our country and our people," Mr Michel told the delegates.

"Seychelles is our motherland and deserves the best every day and I will ensure -- with your support and that of every Seychellois -- that we move much farther ahead on the road to progress."

The incumbent named Mr Danny Faure, presently the Vice-President, as his running mate. Mr Michel said Mr Faure has been working with him, particularly during the launch and implementation of the economic reforms started in 2008 and which have transformed the country.

Mr Michel noted that there is no barrier or difficulty we cannot overcome when we unite as a people. He also spoke of the importance of national unity, harmony, stability, moral and spiritual values, order and peace, as some of the foundations of the Seychellois society, all of which are the fundamental principles of Parti Lepep.

The party's slogan for the forthcoming election is En Nouvo Sesel (A New Seychelles).

He explained the slogan: "This new Seychelles is my vision for progress and prosperity for Seychelles where nobody gets left behind; where everybody assumes his or her individual and responsibility; where we seize all available opportunities; where we develop entrepreneurial spirit; where we develop our skills and know-how; where the Seychellois remain a unique and blessed people, conscious of our responsibility, moral values and culture."

Mr Michel added that Parti Lepep is the only party that has brought changes in Seychelles and will bring even more changes for the benefit of all Seychellois.

He said he does not just preach change but bring about the changes where necessary and in the interest of people.

"I do it taking into account the evolution of our society and of the global situation. I do it because I have a clear vision for Seychelles, which Seychellois share with me and my team," he said.

The founding father of Parti Lepep, Mr France Albert Rene, who could not be present at the Congress, sent a recorded message of support to Mr James Michel.

After the congress the party launched its election website at www.jamesmichel2011.com.
