April 29, 2011 -- President James Michel has, on behalf of the Government and people of Seychelles, congratulated HRH Prince William of Wales and his bride Katherine Middleton on the occasion of their wedding today.
In a message sent to the royal family, President Michel spoke of the shared celebrations taking place across the Commonwealth and the special relationship the Royal couple have with Seychelles.
"This happy occasion is being celebrated across the Commonwealth and across the world. Every Seychellois is pleased and proud to join in this truly global celebration as we all have fond memories of your visit to our islands a few years ago.
"On this momentous day, we unite with the rest of the world to reiterate our felicitation and celebrate your union."
The President also took this opportunity to send a congratulatory message to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, conveying wishes of health and prosperity for both the occasions of the Royal wedding and Her Majesty's 85th birthday.
President Michel also thanked Her Majesty for the continued strong relations between the United Kingdom and Seychelles.
"The United Kingdom and Seychelles share a very rich history. The Government of Seychelles is grateful for the strong bond of friendship that has continuously cemented the relations between our two countries and peoples.
We are also encouraged, your Majesty, that our two countries have been able to provide each other with mutual support in the fight against new and emerging threats including climate change and maritime piracy," added President Michel.
The Seychelles High Commissioner to Great Britain, Mr. Patrick Pillay, attended today's royal wedding on behalf of the Government of Seychelles, at Westminster Abbey.
