Ruling Party Announces Candidates For Legislative Elections

August 17 2011 -- The ruling Parti Lepep (People's Party) announced at an extraordinary congress last night, the candidates who will stand in election of a new National Assembly at the end of September and beginning October.

Dr David Payet for Glacis
Mr Lenny Leon for Grand Anse Mahe

President James Michel, who is party leader, wished the candidates, among them 11 women, success in the legislation elections.
He said: "I've always said that we need a National Assembly that is serious and works in the interest of the people. An assembly that criticizes when it should criticize, but at the same time makes valuable contributions that will strengthen our democratic institutions and values."
The President asked the candidates to remain humble, always be attentive to the people and be true leaders.
"In the New Seychelles, we are earning victories. I want you to be instruments that will bring us more victories for our democracy, development and wellbeing of our people. And for us to achieve the victories you will have to work hard and remain connected with the people. This is your mission!" the President told the candidates.
Legislative elections will be held on 29th, 30th September and 1st October.
