President Michel congratulates Kenya on Gold Jubilee of independence

On the occasion of Kenya’s 50th anniversary of independence, President James Michel conveyed, to the government and to the people of Kenya, Seychelles’ warmest and most sincere congratulations.


President Michel remarked that Kenya over the last fifty years has been an example of a country that has “has charted its own course, courageously taken charge of its destiny, flown its flag with pride and remained steadfast in its commitment to democracy, rule of law and prosperity for its people.”


In addition, President Michel noted the close ties, which exist between Seychelles and Kenya and reiterated the long-standing friendship between the two countries that has translated into mutual collaboration on issues ranging from the fight against piracy to Seychelles’ established relationship with Kenya Airways- a symbol of pride not only for Kenya but for Africa as a whole.
President Michel concluded by stating Kenya was the land of birth of many Seychellois and today Kenyan nationals residing in the Seychelles continue to play a pivotal role in the development of the Seychelles. A such the Seychellois- Kenyan relationship is a special one with established historic and cultural ties.
