Vice President Danny Faure has become the first Seychellois recipient of the Fellowship Award for outstanding contributions towards the development of Open and Distance Learning Education conferred on him by the Commonwealth of Learning [COL] at the seventh Pan-Commonwealth Forum held in Nigeria from 2-6 December 2013.
The Award ceremony, which took place on the 3rd December, was presided over by Professor Asha Kanwar the President and CEO of the COL and conferred the Vice President with the title 'Honorary Fellow'.
The award was bestowed on Vice President Faure for his pivotal role in the transformation of the Education system in Seychelles and more significantly his leadership role in the creation of the Virtual University for Small states in the Commonwealth.
Ambassador Joseph Nourrice, Ambassador for Seychelles to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, collected the Award, on behalf of the Vice President.
Ambassador Nourrice remarked that this was a remarkable achievement for Seychelles and commended the dynamic leadership that has brought one of the smallest member states of the Commonwealth such recognition.
Ambassador Nourrice noted that more often than not, the commitment of the leadership rather than size is one of the most important ingredients for success, and commended the leadership, commitment and tenacity of the Vice President towards the realization of the VUSSC.
Vice President Faure was one among eight distinguished personalities recognized at the event.
