The first High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Seychelles, Mr. Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury, presented his credentials to President James Michel at State House this morning.
After the accreditation ceremony High Commissioner Chowdhury told the national media that his talks with the President centred on various areas of cooperation where both countries can attain a win-win situation in development, such as the fight against climate change, and recruitment of Bangladeshi workers in Seychelles. He remarked that his country has found the need to have a High Commissioner accredited to Seychelles in view of its development potentials and expertise in different fields.
“Seychelles of course, it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world...and in terms of its economy and human and social development indicators, it has the highest in Africa....which are better than many advanced countries in the world. So when the Government saw that people from Bangladesh are coming here to work, then our Government thought it would be benefitting and appropriate that we extend the arena of our cooperation with Seychelles more than it was in the past,” he said.
Also present during the meeting were the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jean-Paul Adam and the President's Diplomatic Adviser, Ambassador Callixte D'Offay.
High Commissioner Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury is based in Mauritius
