President Michel congratulates newly elected Turkish President and bids farewell to outgoing President Abdullah Gull

President James Michel extended his congratulations to His Excellency Mr Recep Tayyip Erdogan who is set to become the first democratically elected President of the Republic of Turkey.

President Michel remarked that the election is a clear indication of the confidence the electorate has placed in Mr Erdogan following his years in office as Prime Minister and also demonstrated the people's conviction in his ability to lead Turkey towards further prosperity and development.

President Michel expressed the desire to deepen cooperation between Seychelles and Turkey and further build on the strong ties under Mr Erdogan's leadership.

In a separate message, on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Seychelles, President Michel extended his appreciation to His Excellency Mr Abdullah Gull, outgoing President of the Republic of Turkey for the work he had accomplished during his tenure as President.

President Michel stated that the Office of the President of the Republic of Turkey played a fundamental role in upholding the values and principles enshrined in the country's constitution.

"Our two countries have shared a most amicable friendship over the years, based on mutual respect and understanding. We are confident that your successor will carry forth your duties with the same dedication you have displayed throughout your term"stated President Michel.
