Four New Ministers of the Cabinet Sworn-In

Four new Ministers of the Cabinet were sworn into office during a ceremony at State House this morning in the presence of President James Michel.

Also present were Vice-President Danny Faure, Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Patrick Herminie, President of the Court of Appeal, Mr. Francis MacGregor, Acting Chief Justice, Durai Karunakaran, other Ministers, former Ministers of the Cabinet, the Attorney General, Mr. Ronny Govinden and staff of the Office of the President.

This follows the ministers’ nomination by President James Michel on 26th January 2015, when he urged all ministers to remain connected to the people and to ensure the highest levels of service delivery with probity, professionalism and humility. He reminded them that theirs is a position of trust, that they have a duty to “make things happen” and that they are at the service of the people of Seychelles. The President also said that it was expected of them to always display the highest standards of integrity and commitment to duty. Their nominations were then approved by the National Assembly on the 30th January 2015.

During the ceremony, Charles Bastienne, Minister of Home Affairs, Didier Dogley: Minister of Environment, Energy & Climate Change, Michael Benstrong, Minister of Investment, Entrepreneurship Development & Business Innovation, and Wallace Cosgrow, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, swore the Oath of Allegiance to the Constitution, the Oath of Office and the Oath of Secrecy.

The portfolios of Cabinet Members are now as follows:

President James Michel: Minister of Defence, Legal Affairs, Information, & Hydrocarbons.

Vice-President Danny Faure:  Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Youth, Civil Society and Public Administration

Designated Minister, Vincent Mériton: Minister of Community Development, Social Affairs & Sports

Joël Morgan: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Transport

Macsuzy Mondon: Minister of Education

Jean-Paul Adam: Minister of Finance, Trade & The Blue Economy

Mitcy Larue: Minister of Health

Alain St Ange: Minister of Tourism & Culture

Christian Lionnet: Minister of Land Use & Housing

Idith Alexander: Minister of Labour and Human Resources Development

Charles Bastienne: Minister of Home Affairs

Didier Dogley: Minister of Environment, Energy & Climate Change
