New Member of the National Human Rights Commission Sworn-In

Mrs. Samantha Aglaë was sworn into office as a member of the National Human Rights Commission in a ceremony held at State House this morning.
She took the Oaths of Allegiance and the Oath of Office in accordance with Section 3(9) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 2009 before the President of the Republic, Mr. James Michel and in the presence of the Vice-President, Mr. Danny Faure, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Dr Patrick Herminie, the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Francis MacGregor, the Attorney General, Ronny Govinden, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Ms. Dora Zatte, as well as senior officials in the Office of the President.
Mrs. Aglaë’s appointment followed a recommendation by the Speaker of the National Assembly. To note, the other two members of the Commission are the Chairperson, Ms. Dora Zatte, and Retired Judge, Mr. Ranjan Perera.
Speaking to the local media after the ceremony, Mrs. Aglaë said that the appointment was unexpected and expressed her gratitude for being chosen. She said it will be an opportunity for her to know and develop further in a new field, whereby she intends to respect the rights of any individual who bring their case before the Commission.
“The appointment itself is an opportunity and it will be a challenge for myself to be part of the reform that has come to certain laws that have come up in Seychelles recently. I will see how I can contribute through my personal knowledge and experience. I will see e how I can contribute to make the Commission grow ...I will remain in my practice and I will avail myself whenever necessary for the work of the Commission. I am very grateful for being chosen for this appointment,” said Mrs. Aglaë who is currently in the private practice as an Attorney at Law and Notary Public.
Mrs. Aglaë graduated with a Degree in Law for the University of Mauritius. She was employed as a Senior Prosecutor and Senior Legal Drafts-person in the Department of Legal Affairs from 2008 to 2012 and was admitted to her Bar Finals on the 5th May 2011.
