The new ambassador for the Federative Republic of Brazil to Seychelles, H.E. Mr. Carlos Alfonso Iglesias Puente, presented his credentials to President James Michel at State House this morning.
Congratulating Ambassador Puente on his accreditation, the President noted the quality of the relations between the two countries. He added that he was certain that they were set to develop further during Ambassador Puente’s mandate.
During their meeting President Michel and the new Brazilian ambassador discussed different sectors that could bring the relations between Seychelles and Brazil to the next level such as in tourism, transport, trade, environment amongst others.
Speaking to the national media after his meeting with the President, Ambassador Puente said that with the need to increase the number of tourists coming to Seychelles, Brazil intended to open an honorary consulate in Seychelles, which would also contribute to boost relations between the two countries.
“Relations between Seychelles and Brazil date back more than fifteen years now and they are good. Coincidentally, we share a commonality of views on a wide range of issues in the United Nations and on other matters that affect developing countries, mainly the subject of sustainable development. Brazil and Seychelles share the same views in dealing with those important issues. They are two friendly countries that cooperate well in many fields in international relations,” said Mr. Puente.
Ambassador Carlos Alfonso Iglesias Puente is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Also present at the meeting this morning were the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Barry Faure, and the Secretary General in the Office of the President, Mrs. Lise Bastienne.
