CEO of Anti-Corruption Commission appointed

The President of the Republic, Mr. James Alix Michel, has today appointed Ms Lucy Athanasius as the Chief Executive Officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission. Ms Athanasius was one of three persons whose names had been recommended to the President by the Chairman of the Commission, Justice Duncan Gaswaga, following interviews by the Commission of all the candidates who had presented themselves for the post.
Ms Athanasius is currently Chief Research Officer in the Seychelles Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). She holds a Master's Degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice and Social Research, from the University of Surrey in the UK. She has held numerous Chief Executive Officer positions in Government, the Parastatal and Private Sectors, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Seychelles Young Leader's Programme. She had also held the post of Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Seychelles.
Section 19 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2016 requires that the Chief Executive Officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission be appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Commission.
